Secure any floats longer than four stitches by twisting the yarns around each other on the wrong side. Make these twists in different spots on consecutive rounds to avoid holes.

How to knit the Monstera wool socks

1. With the dark green yarn, cast on 54 sts onto double-pointed needles, distributing them on four needles (12, 12, 12, and 18 sts). The round starts between Needles I and IV.

2. Then start the ribbing in the round from Round 1 of Chart I, and work Rounds 2–9 of Chart I.

3. On Round 10, evenly increase 3 sts = 57 sts. Then distribute the sts as 14, 14, 14, and 15 sts.

4. Start the colorwork from Round 1 of Chart II and work the 57-st motif. Work Rounds 2–40 of Chart II.

5. Start the heel flap by knitting the sts on Needle I onto Needle IV with the natural white yarn = 29 sts. Leave the other sts on hold. Turn the work and purl all sts on the WS, decreasing 3 sts evenly as you go = 26 sts.

6. Continue with reinforced stitch:

Round 1 (RS): *slip 1 st with yarn at WS side, k1*, repeat *–* to end.

Round 2 (WS): slip the first st with yarn at WS side, p the rest of the sts. Turn.

Repeat Rounds 1–2 a total of 12 times = 24 rounds.

7. Begin the heel turn: continue the same reinforced stitch as before. On the heel flap’s RS row, knit until 9 sts remain.

8. Make an skp decrease (= slip 1 knitwise, k1 and pass the slipped st over) and turn. Slip the first st, p8, p the next 2 sts tog, then turn. Slip the first st, knit until 8 sts remain, make an skp decrease. Continue likewise, decreasing the side stitches while keeping 10 sts in the center.

9. When there are no more side sts, divide the heel flap sts onto two needles, 5 sts each. Knit the 5 sts on the right needle. This is now the start of the round.

10. Next, pick up onto Needle I 12 sts along the left edge of the heel flap + 1 st between the heel flap and Needle II. Begin Chart III from Round 1. Knit the 5 heel flap sts, then knit the picked-up sts through the back loop. Knit the sts on Needles II and III.

11. Now pick up 13 sts along the right edge of the heel flap + 1 st between Needle III and the heel flap, using the needle holding 5 sts. Knit the picked-up sts through the back loop, then knit those 5 heel sts. Continue with the colorwork across these 65 sts, knitting Rounds 2–34 of Chart III.

Note! Make the gusset decreases in the places indicated on the chart. After the gusset decreases, you have 57 sts: 14 sts on Needles I, II, and III, and 15 sts on Needle IV.

12. After Round 34, the foot is about 19–20 cm long. Break the dark green yarn and continue with natural white. Work 2 rounds of stockinette, decreasing 5 sts evenly on the second round = 52 sts. Distribute 13 sts on each needle.

13. Then begin the toe decreases: (wedge toe decreases) knit until the end of Needles I and III, then k2tog, k1. At the start of Needles II and IV, k1, then make an skp decrease. Continue decreasing this way every other round until you have 28 sts. Then decrease on every round. When 8 sts remain, break the yarn, draw it through the remaining sts, and fasten off.

14. Knit the second sock as a mirror image, using Charts I, IV, and V.

15. Lightly steam the finished socks.
