Keep your ankles and calves warm with cozy leg warmers—our simple instructions make it easy for everyone, even beginners!
Leg warmers are a versatile and reliable accessory for your wardrobe, perfect for both relaxing at home and outdoor adventures. With our easy-to-follow instructions, you can knit leg warmers using a simple 2 knit, 2 purl rib stitch.
Size: Women’s size. Length approximately 31 cm; best fits calves with a circumference of about 35–40 cm.
Materials:
- 1 skein of Rowan Felted Tweed yarn (50% wool, 25% alpaca, 25% viscose; 50 g = 175 m) in shade 205 Lotus Leaf
- 1 skein of Novita Soft Merino 4PLY yarn (100% merino wool; 50 g = 200 m) in shade 306 Moss
- 5 mm (US 8) needles (either double-pointed or 40 cm circular needles)
- A tapestry needle.
Gauge:24 stitches and 26 rows = 10 cm.
Leg warmers—instructions:
- Using one strand of each yarn held together, cast on 48 stitches. Cast on loosely to prevent the edge of the leg warmer from being too tight. You can also cast on over two needles to make the edge even looser.
- If you are using double-pointed needles, divide the stitches evenly over four needles (12 stitches per needle). Join to knit in the round and place a stitch marker at the beginning of the round. Alternatively, you can knit the leg warmers using 40 cm circular needles or the magic loop technique.
- Knit in k [in Finnish]nit 2, purl 2 ribbing [in Finnish] *K2, P2*. Repeat *–* to the end of the round. Continue the ribbing until the leg warmer measures approximately 31 cm or your desired length. Note:The yarn consumption is calculated so that one skein of each yarn is sufficient for 31 cm long leg warmers. If you wish to make longer leg warmers, you should have two skeins of each yarn.
- Bind off the stitches in the same rib stitch to keep the edge elastic.
- Work the second leg warmer in the same way.
