1. “An atmospheric and so beautifully rustic-romantic home”

This red, Ostrobothnian-style log house is in Iitti.

Marianne and Esa dreamed of an old house. When the right one didn’t turn up, they built a log house that echoes a traditional Ostrobothnian home. The home’s Christmas atmosphere has delighted many of our readers:

Lovely, warm-hearted. For once, a new house made in a beautifully old-fashioned spirit”, writes our reader Tarja.

An absolutely wonderful house. Don’t start any new building projects now—keep this one, live here”, adds Silja.

A lovely, atmospheric and so beautifully rustic-romantic home!” comments Mia.

The family had the turquoise doors made by a carpenter. They’ve picked out their Christmas tree together from the woods near their cottage.

2. “My eye rests on the cylindrical stoves, log walls, and floors that have seen life”

A green front door invites you into a 1920s log house.

This ocher-yellow log house is a safe haven for a family that loves Christmas. Maria and Jarkko ended up owning a house built in the 1920s in Nousiainen, Finland, after searching for a new, bigger home for quite a while. The home’s style, which honors the old, has delighted many of our readers:

So many delightful details! My eye rests on the cylindrical stoves, log walls, floors that have seen life, and other old things. A calm and arresting whole!” writes screen name Karttuska.

A fine house; the interior suits the style”, Pete writes.

Such a beautiful home”, adds Katja.

Straw goats and other traditional decorations dress the home for Christmas.

3. “A peaceful atmosphere and a charming home”

When Toni and Kati’s family bought the house, it came with a whole bedful of rag rugs. On some of the rug rolls, a neatly lettered note reading “Christmas rugs” had been attached with a pin.

The old house’s high rooms, spaciousness, and feel enchanted Toni and Kati on their very first visit. It had been 60 years since the last major renovation, and surfaces were practically sheathed in plastic, but the new owners peeled back the layers to reveal a sturdy farmhouse. The old-time atmosphere—starting with the traditional rag rugs—has charmed our readers:

My attention was drawn to the rag rugs, which are truly beautiful and suit the house’s style very well”, writes screen name Lisbetti.

A gorgeous house, a lovely home!”, writes Sanna.

Such a beautiful, peaceful atmosphere and a charming home. The rugs on the floor caught my eye too—really beautiful, and they make it feel cozy. The ryijy wall hanging is magnificent. There’s just something about a home like this...”, adds Kaija-Leena.

The house is in Jurva, Finland; their childhood home region.
