Wonderful wildflower arrangements—5 ideas to fill your home with blooms all summer!
Delicate wildflowers set a joyful mood that lasts all summer long. Get inspired by these five beautiful bouquets and arrangements, crafted from Finnish blooms that appear in every phase of the season.
Invasive in a vase
This tall, slender bouquet is easy to create with just a few plant varieties. The early-summer arrangement features lupine gathered from the roadside—a harmful invasive species that should be collected whenever possible before it seeds. Lupine is paired with the frilly blooms of sorrel (also called spinach dock). Fern fronds and the fluffy blossoms of cow parsley form the base of the bouquet.

A midsummer dream
In this double-layered bouquet, delicate midsummer blooms add color—it would be the perfect addition for a dresser top, for instance. There’s no need for chicken wire; simply tuck the stems among the cow parsley blossoms. Collect meadow buttercups, harebells, red campions, and other wild plants early in the morning. Use a knife to cut them rather than pulling them out by hand.

Better together
Complementary colors are a tried-and-true way to make blooms pop. Yellow tansy and purple loosestrife look even brighter side by side. This late-summer bouquet also gains interesting contrast by mixing different bloom shapes: the rounded forms of tansy, field scabious, and yarrow with the conical shapes of purple loosestrife and heather.

“Place freshly picked flowers in plenty of water as soon as possible to let them perk up.”
In celebration of harvest
In this late-summer wreath, the fading beauty of plants is allowed to shine. Don’t avoid wilted blooms; bring them in to capture the season’s mood and colors. The wreath base is twisted from sturdy wire, but you could also use a pre-made wire frame. Rowan berries, raspberry shoots, yellowed fern fronds, tansies, and other flowers are attached to the frame with thin binding wire.

Late-summer bliss
Reed grass, meadowsweet, yarrow, raspberry, coltsfoot, ground elder, and scentless mayweed. Gather these Finnish August plants to create a lush arrangement that’s viewed from one side and place it in your entryway for everyone to enjoy. Arranging them with chicken wire is easy: scrunch the wire into a sphere so it fits inside your container.
