Homemade alternative

Twig base for a floral arrangement—an easy and eco-friendly DIY!

Create a beautiful floral arrangement in a shallow container. A wire mesh sold by florists is commonly used for support, but a gentler, more eco-friendly alternative can be found in your own yard or nearby nature. Here’s how to assemble a twig base!

Wire mesh is often used in arrangements, but it may damage the container. A gentler and more eco-friendly alternative can be achieved by cutting twigs or woody flower stems into short pieces.

Layer the pieces in the container in crisscrossing directions. Finally, secure the twig base with several vertically placed sticks.

Tape stretched across the container adds stability to the base and extra support for the flowers. Any moisture-resistant tape will do. Floral tape is available at well-stocked flower shops.

Making a twig base is easy: simply lay branches in crisscrossing directions along the bottom of the container. Finally, push a few sticks upright among the branches to keep the base steady.
