These gorgeous Flower vine socks are finished with duplicate stitches—here’s the pattern to knit your own pair!
These sweet wool socks represent an everlasting summer. The Flower vine socks are knit with three colors. The fourth color is used in the finishing stage when you embroider the trailing flowers onto the finished sock with duplicate stitches.
Size: EU 38/39.
Flower vine wool socks: supplies
- Novita 7 Brothers yarn in the following shades: 100 g of dark green (391), just under 100 g of light green (302), just under 50 g of pink (514), and a small amount of light pink (053)
- double-pointed needles 3.5 mm (US 4) or to match your gauge.
Stitch patterns:
- Ribbing in colorwork: *knit 1 st with dark green, purl 1 st with pink*, repeat *–* for the entire round.
- Stockinette stitch in the round: knit all stitches on every round.
- Colorwork: knit stockinette according to the chart.
Note: Secure floats longer than 4 stitches by twisting the yarns around each other on the wrong side. Offset these twists so they aren’t in the same spot on consecutive rounds.
Gauge: 22 sts in colorwork = 10 cm.

How to knit the Flower vine socks
Leg
- Cast on 56 sts with dark green and distribute them on four needles, 14 sts each. The start of the round is between needles I and IV. Purl 1 round and knit 1 round with dark green.
- On the next round, *k1 in dark green, k1 in pink*, repeat to the end of the round. Then continue with ribbing in colorwork: *k1 in dark green, p1 in pink*, repeat *–* for 4 rounds. Then knit 1 round and purl 1 round with dark green.
- Begin the colorwork from row 1 of the chart, working the 28-st repeat twice. Work rows 2–45. Note: Knit the flowers in dark green.

Tip! Maintaining yarn dominance is easier when you keep the yarns in the same order. You can search “yarn dominance” online for more instructions.
Heel
- Work the short-row heel on needles I and IV = 28 sts. Take the dark green yarn and knit across needles IV and I. Turn work, slip 1 st purlwise, pull the yarn behind the work so that the loops of the previous row’s stitch lift onto the needle = a stitch pair. Then purl across needle IV, turn work, and slip 1 st purlwise, pulling the yarn to form another stitch pair. Note: Always slip the first st of every row purlwise.
- Continue back and forth with short rows as above, always turning the work before the last stitch pair. When there are 10 regular sts in the center and 9 stitch pairs on each side, start lengthening the rows again.
- Knit the middle 9 sts plus 1 stitch pair (= knit the pair’s two loops together). *Turn work, slip the first st purlwise. Work until you reach a stitch pair on the other side, knit that pair together as one st, then turn work.* Repeat *–* until all sts are back in use. Knit the next row up until to the start of the round, that is, between needles I and IV.
- Add the light green yarn and continue the chart from row 46. If you like, you can pick up any extra sts on each side of the heel and decrease them on the next round. Continue in colorwork until the foot measures about 19 cm or until your little toe is covered.
Toe decreases
1. Keep following the chart, but make the decreases always in dark green. On the rounds in between decreases, also knit the “decrease stitches” in dark green. At the end of needles I and III, knit 2 sts together, and at the beginning of needles II and IV, work an skp decrease (= slip 1 knitwise, knit 1 and pass the slipped st over).
2. Continue decreasing as above every other round until 8 sts remain on each needle. Then decrease on every round. When 12 sts remain total, break the yarn and pull it through the stitches, securing tightly.
Knit the second sock the same way.
Finishing
Embroider the flowers by duplicating sts according to the chart with the pink and light pink yarns.
