Size: EU 38.
Snowflake socks: supplies
- Novita Nalle yarn: 150 g of light gray (043), just under 100 g of white (011), and a small amount of light pink (506)
- Double-pointed needles 3 mm (US 2.5), or size needed to meet gauge
- Crochet hook size 3.5 mm (US 4).
Stitch patterns
Rib stitch in the round: *k2, p2*, repeat from * to *.
Colorwork in the round: work stockinette stitch following the chart. Note: If the pattern is 6 sts wide or more, twist the yarns around each other on the wrong side to catch the float. Make sure to make these twists in different spots so they do not align on consecutive rounds.
Gauge: 25 sts of colorwork = 10 cm.

How to knit the Snowflake socks
1. For the leg, cast on 80 sts with light gray and distribute them across four needles: 24 sts on needle I, 16 sts each on needles II and III, and 24 sts on needle IV. The beginning of the round is between needles I and IV. Work 3 cm of rib and then knit 1 round in stockinette.
2. Take the light pink yarn and knit 1 round in stockinette. Then alternate knitting 1 st in light pink with 1 st in light gray. Work one more round the same way.

3. Begin the colorwork from Round 1 of Chart 1 and work the 80-st pattern. Then work Rounds 2–74. On Rounds 17, 22, 27, 32, 37, 42, 47, 52, 57, and 62, decrease 2 sts by working an skp decrease (= slip 1 knitwise, k1 and pass slipped st over knit st) at the start of the round and k2tog at the end. After these decreases, you have 60 sts (14 on needle I, 16 on needles II and III, and 14 on needle IV).
4. Begin the heel flap by knitting the sts on needle I onto needle IV with light gray = 28 sts. Turn your work and leave the remaining sts on hold. Work reinforced stitch as follows:
Row 1: (WS) Slip the first st with the yarn on the WS, then purl the remaining sts. Turn.
Row 2: (RS) *slip 1 st with yarn on the WS, k1*, repeat from * to * to the end of the row.
Repeat Rows 1–2 a total of 14 times = 28 rows.
5. Work one more WS row, then begin the heel turn decreases: continue with the same reinforced stitch pattern. On the RS, work until 10 sts remain.
Make an skp and turn. Slip the first st, purl 8, then p2tog. Turn. Slip the first st, work until 9 sts remain, skp. Continue like this, decreasing the side sts and keeping the 10 center sts the same. When all the side sts are used up, divide the heel flap sts onto two needles, 5 sts each. Knit the 5 right-hand side sts. The beginning of the round is now here.
Next, pick up 14 sts along the left side of the heel flap with a free needle + 1 st from the junction of the heel flap and needle II. Knit the 5 heel flap sts and the picked-up sts tbl (through the back loop) with light gray. Knit the sts on needles II and III. Then pick up 14 sts along the right side of the heel flap + 1 st between needle III and the flap, using the needle holding 5 sts. Knit these picked-up sts tbl and then knit the 5 heel flap sts.

6. Continue with these 72 sts in colorwork from Round 1 of Chart 2, and at the same time begin the gusset decreases on needles I and IV as shown in the chart. Work Rounds 2–10. On each of Rounds 2, 4, 6, and 8, decrease 2 sts. You now have 64 sts, 16 on each needle. Continue the colorwork by repeating Rounds 11–20 on needles I and IV, and working Rounds 11–40 on needles II and III. Then knit 1 round in light gray and at the same time, decrease 2 sts evenly on each needle = 56 sts, 14 per needle.
7. Next, begin the toe decreases (wedge decreases): at the end of needles I and III, k2tog, then k1. At the beginnig of needles II and IV, k1 and then skp. Work these decreases every other round until each needle has 6 sts left. Then decrease on every round. When 8 sts remain in total, break the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts. Weave in all ends. Knit the second sock the same way, or mirror the leg pattern (Chart 1) if you prefer.
Finishing
With the light pink yarn, embroider the snowflake on the top of Chart 2 on the toes using dublicate stitch.

Crocheted stars
With the white yarn, ch 6 and join into a ring with 1 sl st.
Round 1: ch 3, then in the ring work 1 dc + ch 2, *2 dc + ch 2*, repeat from * to * 3 more times, and join with 1 sl st in the 3rd ch of the starting ch-3.
Round 2: in each 2-ch space from the previous round, work 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc, 1 hdc, and 1 sc. End the round with 1 sl st in the first sc.
Make as many stars as you like and sew them onto the socks. Lightly steam the finished socks.
