Fabric hanging chair—supplies:

  • Sunbrella outdoor fabric in two colors, about 140 cm each
  • A sturdy wooden rod with a diameter of about 4.5 cm and length 90–100 cm
  • Strong, non-stretch rope
  • Lace ribbon
  • A drill
When you sew the hanging chair using two differently colored fabrics, you can flip it for variety. The front edge of the seat is trimmed with linen lace.

Fabric hanging chair—instructions:

  1. Shape the fabric pieces so that the top edge is about 80 cm wide and the bottom edge is 100 cm.
  2. Sew the two pieces together, right sides facing, along the sides and top edge. Leave the bottom edge open. Turn right side out. Fold the seam allowances at the bottom edge inward and place the lace ribbon between them. Topstitch the bottom edge closed.
  3. Fold channels approximately 5-cm-wide along the edges and topstitch.
  4. Drill two holes about 2.5 cm apart at each end of the wooden rod.
  5. Thread and tie the rope as shown in the picture so the chair is just right for you. By adjusting the gathers on the edges, you can change the position.
Thread the rope through the holes in the wooden rod, adjusting the swing’s height and position as you go.
