Round crocheted fringe rug—instructions:

Crocheted fringe rug start
  • Starting out: The rug is crocheted entirely with the yarn held double. Chain 6 and join them into a ring with a slip stitch. Work 2 single crochet stitches in each stitch around the ring. Carry the starting yarn tails inside the stitches to hide them neatly. Mark the beginning of the round with a safety pin and move the marker as you go.
  • Round 2: *Work 2 sc in the same stitch, then 1 sc*, repeat *—* for the entire round.
  • Round 3: *Work 2 sc in the same stitch, then 2 sc*, repeat *—* for the entire round.
  • Round 4: *Work 2 sc in the same stitch, then 3 sc*, repeat *—* for the entire round.
  • Round 5: *Work 2 sc in the same stitch, then 4 sc*, repeat *—* for the entire round.
  • Rounds 6–10: Continue in the same pattern, adding one more sc between increases on each round.

Remaining rounds: As you go, always make your increases in the stitch before the increase from the previous round so that a playful pinwheel pattern forms on the rug.

When the rug measures about 68 cm (27 in) in diameter, fasten off with a slip stitch and hide the yarn tails in the first fringe.

Fringes

Cut 20 cm (8 in) lengths of yarn and group them in bundles of three. Fold the bundle in half and use your crochet hook to pull the folded loop through the rug’s edge. Then pull the loose ends through the loop and tighten. Make a fringe in every other stitch around the rug’s edge. Finally, trim the fringe ends with scissors if you want a neater look.

Tip!

If the rug is slippery on the floor, cut a piece of anti-slip underlay to fit underneath or try a non-slip product meant for the soles of wool socks.
