Row-house calendar—supplies:

  • a partition stud made of laminated veneer lumber, 39 × 66 × 2550 mm (1.5” × 2.6” × 8’4”)
  • a pencil and a ruler
  • a saw
  • acrylic paint and a brush
  • assorted popsicle sticks or wooden disposable spoons
  • a hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • a Posca marker or another durable paint marker
  • craft clay
The row of houses is crafted from laminated veneer lumber, also known as kertopuu or LVL. If sawing the roofline doesn’t work out, just paint the triangles between the roofs—perhaps as a starry sky.

Row-house calendar—instructions:

1. Start by measuring and marking 24 equal sections on the stud for the house bodies. Shorten the stud if needed.

2. Decide the roof pitch and draw guidelines on the stud. Then saw the roof shapes along the lines.

3. Paint the houses and roofs, and let the calendar dry overnight.

You can paint the houses with craft paints or leftover water-based interior paints.
A Posca marker is a felt-tip pen filled with water-based paint that makes it easy to draw fine details. The paint adheres to nearly any surface.

4. Glue popsicle sticks on top of the roofs as shingles.

5. Finish the house details and numbers with Posca markers.

6. Shape a chimney from modeling clay so it sits securely on the ridge.

Sketch the shape of the chimney on paper to match the roof profile.
Air-dry craft clay is great for both kids and adults. It hardens conveniently at room temperature without an oven.
