Citrus toilet bombs

Diy bathroom refresh: toilet bomb
This fizzing toilet bomb is great for everyday cleaning for toilets with no stubborn stains. Toss a lemon bomb into the bowl, let it fizz for a couple of minutes, brush, and flush.

Supplies:

  • 1½ dl baking soda

  • ¾ dl citric acid

  • 10 drops each of lemon and lime essential oils

  • Mixing bowl and spoon

  • A few tablespoons of water

  • Spray bottle

  • Silicone ice cube tray

  • Lidded glass jar

  • Paper, printer or pen, scissors, and glue for the label

Instructions:

  1. Fill the spray bottle with water. Combine the baking soda and citric acid in a bowl. Add the essential oils one drop at a time, stirring continuously with a spoon.
  2. Spray the mixture with water a little at a time, stirring constantly. There is enough water in the mixture when it resembles moist sand and holds together when pressed.
  3. Press the mixture firmly into the silicone ice cube tray and let it harden overnight.
  4. Make a label and glue it onto the jar. Remove the bombs from the tray, put them in the jar, and store in a dry place.

Ceramic scent stones

You can shape the clay into any small shapes to make scent stones. Use essential oils sparingly—the smaller the space and the stronger the scent, the less oil you need. If you have pets, ensure that the type and amount of oil you use is safe for them.

Supplies:

  • Half a handful of air-dry clay

  • Craft mat or cutting board

  • Plastic bag

  • Small plate or dish

  • Essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Shape the clay into 5–6 stones. Press a slight indentation on the bottom of each stone with your finger to make them concave. This helps prevent cracking as they dry.
  2. Allow the stones to dry slowly on the mat, first by putting them in a plastic bag for a couple of days, then take them out and leave exposed to air until they’re completely dry. Dry stones no longer feel cool to the touch.
  3. Arrange the stones in a dish and add a few drops of essential oil. Two to three drops is enough to give your bathroom a subtle scent. Reapply when the fragrance fades.

Room fragrance bouquet

You can use any essential oils for this fragrance or mix your favorites. Lavender pairs well with warm mandarin or robust rosemary. If you prefer not to mix oil and alcohol, you can purchase a ready-made fragrance base from a candle and cosmetics supply store.

Supplies:

  • 1 dl almond or baby oil

  • 2 teaspoons of clear alcohol

  • 40–50 drops of your favorite flower and plant essential oils (e.g., 30 drops of lavender, 10 drops of eucalyptus, and 10 drops of pine)

  • A narrow-necked bottle or mini vase

  • Paper, printer or pen, scissors, and glue for the label

  • A couple of porous scent sticks or clean, completely dry twigs

  • A few dried flowers and/or dry branches

Instructions:

  1. Pour the oil, alcohol, and essential oils into the bottle. Cover the opening with your thumb and shake well. Make a label by printing or handwriting, and glue it onto the bottle.
  2. Insert a few plants into the bottle in the oil mixture, then arrange the scent sticks, twigs, and flowers upright at the mouth of the bottle. The more sticks you use, the faster the fragrance will evaporate. Flip the scent sticks every couple of weeks to gently release the aroma into the room.
