Dreadlocks and an elven vibe

Sanni’s hat has an elven vibe.

“I felted my sauna hat by hand years ago. I haven’t used it in the sauna yet, but every once in a while, I stand in front of the mirror wearing it and chuckle. I came up with the idea during a community college course. A lot of people had dreadlocks around that time, and I wanted to add a bit of an elven twist to the hat.” - Sanni Poppi

It all started as a joke

Essi sometimes shares the sauna with Miki the dog.

“Yes, I have a sauna hat! I often wear it myself, but it suits everyone. About ten years ago, my sister and I joked about a sauna hat we saw in a store and how stylish it would look. She ended up buying it for me as a birthday gift. It went unused for years, but later I started wearing it.

I wear it year-round, and it protects my long hair from the heat. The friend in the photo is an Arctic dog, a Yakutian Laika named Miki, who loves snow and cold but sometimes hops on the sauna bench.” - Essi Tähkä

Beads complete the look

Katja knitted her hat from leftover yarn, felted it, and embellished it with crochet.

“The idea for this sauna hat came from leftover yarn I wanted to use wisely. I enjoy winter swimming, and the hat works perfectly for that. It’s much too hot and thick for summer.

I came up with the decorations myself. I had a broken bracelet and salvaged the beads, then stitched them onto the hat. It was a bit too big at first, so I had to felt it several times. People at the cold-plunging sauna have praised it as beautiful.” - Katja Luojus
