A place for everything: build a wall rack for small essentials
This handy wall-mounted rack is built from a wooden board and metal hooks. Its compact size makes it ideal for a dressing room or small entryway, while the shelf provides space for small essentials.
Rack with a shelf—materials:
planed board, 21 mm × 95 mm (0.8 in × 3.7 in)
wood glue
clamps
4 dowels, ø 8 mm (0.3 in)
drill and drill bit, ø 8 mm (0.3 in)
saw
hammer
hooks and screws

Tip!
Make the rack any length you need, and adjust the number of hooks based on what you plan to hang.
Rack with a shelf—instructions:
1. Saw or cut two 70 cm (28 in) pieces from the board.
2. Mark the positions for the dowels on the board that will become the shelf.
3. Using an 8 mm (0.3 in) drill bit, make holes for the dowels in both the shelf and the vertical board.

4. Join the parts of the rack with glue and dowels. Tap the joint tight with a hammer and clamp it in place until the glue is dry.

5. Saw off any excess from the dowels.
6. Measure where you want the hooks, then attach them with screws. Drill holes at the ends of the rack to fasten it to the wall.
Tip!
Paint or varnish the rack with furniture lacquer for a highly durable finish.
