Retro Christmas Charm

Add a nostalgic touch to Christmas with old-fashioned paper angels—get instructions and craft easy recycled decor

Paper angels are traditional Christmas ornaments you can make quickly in large numbers. Smaller angels look adorable on a Christmas tree, while larger ones can be hung on a wall or door. Watch the video at the end of the instructions!

Paper angels—supplies:

  • recycled paper (e.g., pages from an old book or magazine)
  • glue
  • scissors
  • wooden beads
  • string

Paper angels—instructions:

Folding paper for the paper angel into an accordion

1. Fold two sheets of paper of equal size into accordion pleats. Make the folds along the shorter side.

Folding the accordion to form the wing

2. Fold one end of the accordion to form the angel’s wing. A good spot for the fold is about one-third of its length. Fold the other accordion the same way. Make sure the long sides match.

3. Next, glue the long sides of the accordions together. Tie a piece of string into a hanging loop and place it between them. Press to secure.

Threading a wooden bead onto the hanging loop
