Got a dull decorative basket lying around? Paint it with squares and stripes
Give plain storage baskets new life by painting them with relaxed, chocolatey-toned designs. Look for different baskets at flea markets!

A couple of narrow brushes in different sizes
High-quality painter’s tape for edging

Painted baskets—instructions:

Checkered basket
Use painter’s tape to mark the vertical stripes first, then paint them. If your basket has large weaves, paint might seep under the tape’s edge. Small irregularities aren’t a big deal here, but you’ll get more precise results with a tighter weave.
Remove the tape while the paint is still damp, and let the vertical stripes dry completely. Then tape off the horizontal stripes, paint them, and let them dry.

Striped basket with a thick bottom edge
Tape just above the basket’s bottom edge and paint down to the base. Remove the tape and let the paint dry completely. Then tape off the rim and the sides of the vertical stripes, paint those stripes, and let them dry.

Large basket
Use painter’s tape to mark large vertical squares along the top brim of the basket. Then mark a wide stripe in the center, a thinner stripe below it, and another wide stripe at the bottom. Paint all of them at once, each with a different color.
Tip! You can apply the same method to paint a checkerboard, diagonal grid, or stripes in various colors.
