Make a bountiful oat sheaf wreath that keeps winter birds well fed
A traditional oat sheaf is beautiful on its own, but you can also turn it into an easy wreath. Hang the wreath on your front door for decoration, or place it outdoors for the birds to enjoy.
Oat sheaf wreath supplies
- A ready-made wreath base (for example, a straw wreath) or metal wire
- oat sheaf
- binding wire, thin metal wire, or jute twine
Oat sheaf wreath instructions
- Use a ready-made wreath base or twist one from metal wire.
- Separate small bundles from the oat sheaf; they’re easy to attach.
- Tie bundles to the base until the wreath is nice and full. If you plan to hang the wreath outdoors, jute twine is the safest option for tying the bundles.
Keep in mind!
If the wreath is intended for birds to feed on, avoid iron wire or other sharp materials that could injure them.
