Can you spot them all? Moomin designer hid five surprises in the Moomins’ 80th‑birthday illustration
The Moomins just turned 80! To mark the occasion, Moomin Arabia created a celebratory collection with more than a Moomin mug. Designer Parvati Pillai shares the playful details she tucked into the illustrations.

To celebrate the Moomins’ 80th anniversary, Moomin Arabia has launched the Festive Moments collection, which includes more than just the classic Moomin mug. Designer Parvati Pillai explains the little surprises she hid in the collection’s illustrations, which were inspired by Tove Jansson’s 1948 book Finn Family Moomintroll.
1. Who are we toasting?
“At the heart of the collection is Moomintroll, who happily raises a toast first to the new arrivals, Thingumy and Bob, and then to the adventurous Snufkin. The spontaneous party and the toasts capture the Moomins’ festive spirit and philosophy—everyone belongs.”
2. The Muskrat in action
“In this case, the Muskrat has played host, arranging both large and small tables so guests can move about easily and switch seats often.”

3. The role of the glow-worms
“Glow-worms, fireflies, and tiny lanterns are used as decorations, giving the party a magical, twinkling glow.”
4. This season’s trend color
“A moody, very on-trend burgundy sets the palette. The characters—and the lush backdrop of trees, flowers, and many tiny details—stand out against it in blush pink, warm yellow, and light blue.”
5. How many jars of raspberry juice?
“There are 11 jars of raspberry juice on the table—the 12th jar cracked when the Hemulen forgot his sparkler (a small firework)! But not to worry, Thingumy and Bob licked up most of the juice.”
