Go pastel! Molla Mills’s crocheted rug merges delicious candy hues with a bold shape—see the pattern!
The beauty of this rug by craft-book author Molla Mills lies in the material. The soft bouclé yarn forgives small crocheting mistakes. Worked with a large hook, this rug can be done in just a couple of evenings, and you can adjust the size of the easy hexagon pattern to fit your home perfectly.
Size: diameter 120 cm (47.25").
Crocheted hexagon rug—materials:
- Lankava’s Frotee bouclé yarn (80% recycled cotton, 20% polyester, 1 kg ≈ 180–190 m): 2 kg (4.4 lb) of lilac (85) and 1 kg (2.2 lb) of mint green (59)
- crochet hook size 10 mm or as needed for gauge.
Tapestry crochet
The rug is worked in joined rounds using two colors. Starting with Round 9, carry the second color inside the stitches. Switch colors halfway through a dc by working the last yarn over of the dc with the new color. Maintain even tension for both yarns so the carried yarn stays snug.
Gauge: 4 rounds = 10 cm (approx. 4").
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch.

Using tapestry crochet, work the rug with two colors according to the chart.
Round 1: With the lilac yarn, form a magic ring around two fingers. Ch 3 and work 17 dc in the ring, then join with 1 sl st in the 3rd ch = 18 dc.
Round 2: Ch 3 and work 1 dc in that same st, *1 dc, 2 dc in the same st, ch 1, 2 dc in the same st*, repeat from * to * 5 more times, then 2 dc in the same st, ch 1, sl st in the 3rd ch = 30 dc.
Round 3: Ch 3 and work 1 dc in that same st, *3 dc, 2 dc in the same st, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 2 dc in the same st*, repeat from * to * 5 more times, 2 dc in the same st, ch 1, sl st in the 3rd ch = 42 dc. Continue following the chart and begin tapestry crochet on Round 9. Work a total of 23 rounds. Fasten off and weave in ends.
