Craft an adorable clay village for your tree: here’s how
Shape small houses from lightweight polymer clay to add charm to your Christmas tree. Will you pick pastel shades or classic red? Even if you hang an entire village on the branches, these lightweight ornaments won’t weigh them down.
House ornaments for the tree—supplies
Fimo Air Light clay (or similarly light-drying paper clay)
knife
craft paints
fine acrylic brushes
black, white, and gold markers
wire and sewing thread.

House ornaments for the tree—instructions
1. Cut pieces of wire about 4 cm (1.5”) long, fold them in half, and twist them into small loops.

2. Shape ultra-light Fimo clay into small houses about 3–5 cm (1–2”) in size and various shapes, then use a knife to straighten the roofs and bases, smoothing the surfaces with your fingers. Add chimneys on top if you like. Finally, push the wire loop through the center of the roof so only the loop is visible.

3. Let the houses dry completely for a day or two, then paint the walls in any colors you like.
4. Once the wall colors are dry, paint the roofs and windows. First outline the areas with a marker, then fill them in with black using a fine brush.

5. When all the paint has dried, draw frames around the windows and doors with a white paint marker. Add the hanging thread and gold details with a marker.
Tips!
- A good acrylic brush makes precise edges easier. It’s worth investing in quality brushes!
- You can also color the doors and windows black with a marker to make it simpler.
