Fragrant and festive
This season’s hit: the mandarin Christmas tree—make an easy, showstopping centerpiece for your Christmas table
A mandarin Christmas tree is a beautiful, fragrant table decoration best made with small, firm mandarins. Arrange the fruit on a pedestal platter in the shape of a tree using wooden skewers.
The stylish mandarin Christmas tree is this year’s holiday hit—and for good reason! Who wouldn’t love an easy, eye-catching decoration you get to eat afterward?
Choose small, firm mandarins with skins that cling tightly to the fruit. You’ll also need wooden skewers and, if you like, green leaves or sprigs of evergreen. After the festivities, cook with the mandarins or simply snack on them.

Mandarin Christmas tree—how to:
- Push a mandarin onto both ends of a wooden skewer so the fruits rest on the edges of the platter. Repeat until the first layer is in place. The crisscrossing skewers will hide behind the mandarins.
- Build the next layers the same way. Shorten the skewers as you go to shape a tree. If you like, tuck green leaves or small sprigs of evergreen into the gaps.
- You can also build the tree on a craft-store styrofoam cone. Attach the fruit to the styrofoam with toothpicks. If you love the scent of cloves, stud the mandarins with cloves before assembling.
