Doily to the rescue
Reuse what you have: Turn an old lace doily into a pretty flower support
Recycling doesn’t always mean sorting plastic and glass—sometimes it’s about looking at what’s already in your home with fresh eyes! An old lace doily can be reshaped into a delicate but practical support for garden flowers. See our instructions!
Lace doily flower support—supplies:
- a lace doily
- water-based all-purpose glue (or sugar)
- parchment paper

How to make a lace doily flower support:
- In a bowl, mix equal parts water and glue. Stir well. You can swap the glue for sugar by mixing sugar and boiling water in the same ratio.
- Submerge the doily completely in the mixture, then lift it out to dry on a sheet of parchment paper.
- Let the doily dry completely.
- Place another sheet of parchment paper on top and press the doily flat with an iron.
- If needed, enlarge the lace openings with a knitting needle.
- Place the doily over the mouth of a vase and thread the stems through the openings.
