Kotona etiquette: your guide to respectful online conversations

At Kotona, we believe in the beauty of the unexpected—moments, ideas, and encounters that inspire. To keep this space open and welcoming for everyone, we’ve created the Kotona etiquette. It applies across our website and social media channels.

We love all homes.

You’re free to disagree and be critical, but aggressive or inappropriate comments are not welcome on the Kotona website or our social channels. Discriminatory, defamatory, or otherwise offensive comments are not permitted. Please respect others’ opinions.

The editorial team removes inappropriate comments and may block any user who violates our etiquette on social media without prior warning.

If you believe someone has broken the etiquette, please let the editorial team know by sending feedback here or emailing kotona@a-lehdet.fi. Please include a link to the social media post containing the inappropriate comment. A screenshot is also helpful.

Keep these points in mind when commenting:

  • Stay on the article’s topic. Don’t insult anyone’s home, life choices, or appearance.
  • Explain your perspective. Don’t spread misleading information or lies.
  • Be polite and constructive. Don’t mock, twist facts, or use profanity.
  • The administrators reserve the right to remove any material that breaches these rules and block the user who shared it without prior warning.

Respect others’ rights, and expect the same from them.

Don’t post personal or confidential information—whether it’s yours or someone else’s—like names or phone numbers.

If you share text, photos, or videos created by others, make sure you have permission. If you quote text, mention its source, and clearly show which parts of your post are quoted and which are your own—quotation marks are a good option. You breach copyright if, for example, you copy entire articles without a source and without adding your own comments.

And one more thing: don’t advertise or spam.

The comment section on the Kotona website and our social media channels isn’t an open advertising platform. So please don’t sneak in ads, send junk messages, or flood our feeds. If you’d like to advertise on our website or social channels, please contact A-lehdet’s Director of New Business & Commercial Solutions, Maija Koski. We’re always excited to explore new ideas and collaborations.
