Knitted bath mitt: gently exfoliate with linen yarn
A knitted bath mitt is a lovely addition to your bathroom or a thoughtful gift for a friend. It’s made with linen yarn, which gently exfoliates the skin.
Wash mitt size: 11 x 24 cm.
Knitted bath mitt: supplies
- 50 g of Veera linen yarn for one wash mitt: for a gray-topped mitt, about 30 g of gray and 20 g of orange
- knitting needles size 4 mm (US 6) or according to your gauge
- crochet hook size 4 mm (US 6), or according to your gauge.
Stitch patterns
- Knit garter stitch flat.
- Knit all stitches on both right- and wrong-side rows. The tip decreases of the mitt are worked with short rows.
Gauge
14 sts and 28 rows = 10 cm.
How to knit the bath mitt
- Leave a 50 cm tail at the cast-on for crocheting the hanging loop later. For the gray-topped wash mitt, cast on 35 sts with gray yarn, then bring in the orange yarn right away. Row 1 (orange): slip the first 5 sts without knitting, knit 30 sts in orange, turn. Row 2 (orange): knit 30 sts in orange, bring the orange yarn to the front of the work, slip 5 sts without knitting, turn. Rows 3–4 (gray): knit 35 sts in gray, turn.
- Repeat rows 1–4 a total of 12 times. Then work rows 1–3 once more, and bind off the sts with gray yarn on the wrong side by knitting them. Do not cut the yarn. Fold the sides of the mitt together with the right side facing out, and crochet the side seam with single crochet starting at the tip of the mitt: make 18 sc, leave an opening for the thumb by crocheting only along one edge for 10 sc, then continue joining both edges for the remaining 10 sc. Cut the yarn and pull it through the last stitch.
- Crochet a hanging loop at the tip of the mitt as follows: use the cast-on tail and crochet hook to weave loosely through the edges of the tip opening, and gently pull it closed. Chain 6, make 1 slip stitch on the other side of the tip, turn. Chain 1 and work 10 single crochets into the chain. Cut the yarn and pull it through the last stitch.
- Weave in the ends.
Linen is an ancient cultivated plant that has been grown for thousands of years thanks to the natural sheen and strength of its fibers. Linen is smooth-surfaced and known for its excellent light fastness and moisture absorption. Linen doesn’t soil easily, is effortless to clean, dries quickly, and softens with use. That is why it is an excellent choice for sauna textiles.
