Materials for the Rose Garden socks
- Main color (MC): one skein of Laurelknits KiMo Sock yarn (400 m/100 g) in shade Wonderland, contrast colors (CC): Naturelle (CC1) and Misty Moss (CC2). Alternatively, you can use any fingering-weight sock yarn: 260 m of main color and 28 m + 28 m of contrast colors
80 cm long, 2 mm / US 0 circular needles for magic loop.
Gauge: 28 sts x 38 rnds, knitted in the round and blocked.

How to knit the Rose Garden socks
Cuff
1. Cast on 64 sts onto the 2 mm circular needles. Divide the sts so that each needle has 32 sts.
2. Knit twisted rib in the round as follows: N1: *1 ktbl, 1 ptbl*. Repeat *–* to end of needle. N2: *1 ktbl, 1 ptbl*. Repeat *–* to end of needle. Continue knitting twisted rib for 14 rnds or until the cuff measures about 3 cm.
Leg
1. Continue knitting the leg in stockinette stitch in the round as follows: N1: Knit all sts. N2: Knit all sts. Knit 2 rnds of stockinette stitch.
2. Introduce CC1 and CC2 into your work. Begin knitting according to the chart on N1 and continue stockinette stitch on N2 as follows: N1: Follow the chart. N2: Knit all sts. Continue until you have knitted chart rows 1–20 once.
3. Cut CC1 and CC2, leaving long enough tails for weaving in.
4. Next rnd: N1: Knit all sts. N2: Knit all sts.
5. Next rnd: N1: Knit all sts.
Heel
1. Knit the heel flap in heel stitch as follows:
Row 1 (RS): *Slip 1 st knitwise, knit 1*. Repeat *–* to end of needle. Turn work.
Row 2 (WS): Slip 1 st purlwise, purl 31 sts to end of needle. Turn work.
Repeat rows 1–2 fifteen times for a total of 32 rows. Turn work.
2. Begin the French heel as follows:
Row 1 (RS): Slip 1 st knitwise, knit 17 sts, ssk, knit 1. Turn work.
Row 2 (WS): Slip 1 st purlwise, purl 5 sts, p2tog, purl 1. Turn work.
Row 3 (RS): Slip 1 st knitwise, knit 6 sts, ssk, knit 1. Turn work.
Row 4 (WS): Slip 1 st purlwise, purl 8 sts, p2tog, purl 1. Turn work.
Continue decreasing in this manner until you have worked the decreases on both right and wrong sides at the edges of the rows. After the decreases, there are a total of 18 sts on N2.
3. Next rnd:
N2: Pick up 16 sts from the left edge of the heel flap and between N2, and knit them through the back loop onto N2.
N1: Knit all sts.
N2: Pick up 16 sts from the right edge of the heel flap and between N1, and knit them through the back loop onto N2. Knit 18 sts. This is the new beginning of the round. There are now a total of 76 (88) sts.
Gusset decreases
1. Bring CC1 and CC2 back into your work. Begin knitting according to the chart on N1 and start gusset decreases on N2 as follows:
Rnd 1: N1: Follow the chart. N2: SSK, knit until 2 sts remain, k2tog.
Rnd 2: N1: Follow the chart. N2: Knit all sts. Continue repeating rnds 1–2 until N2 has 32 sts after gusset decreases.
Foot (straight part)
1. Next rnd: N1: Follow the chart. N2: Knit all sts. Continue in this manner until you have completed chart rnds 1–20. Cut CC1 and CC2, leaving long enough tails for weaving in.
2. Next rnd: N1: Knit all sts. N2: Knit all sts. Continue like this until you have knitted 2 rnds of stockinette stitch.
3. Bring CC1 and CC2 back into your work. Begin knitting according to the chart on N1 and stockinette stitch on N2 as follows: N1: Follow the chart. N2: Knit all sts. Continue until you have knitted chart rnds 1–20 once. Cut CC1 and CC2, leaving long enough tails for weaving in.
4. Next rnd: N1: Knit all sts. N2: Knit all sts.
Toe decreases and finishing
Begin knitting the wedge toe as follows:
Rnd 1: N1: K2tog, knit until 2 sts remain, ssk. N2: SSK, knit until 2 sts remain, k2tog.
Rnd 2: N1: Knit all sts. N2: Knit all sts.
Repeat rnds 1–2 until there are 8 sts remaining on each needle. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail, and finish by grafting the stitches together. Weave in all ends on the wrong side of the work.
Finishing
Soak the socks in lukewarm water. Gently squeeze out excess water and dry flat or shape with sock blockers.
