Fluffy bunnies!
Are these the cutest socks ever? Knit the Bunny socks for a child or yourself
These lovely Bunny socks are knit with pink and white yarn. If you’d like, you can decorate the bunny ears with sequins for some extra bling. As for the tail—it’s a pom pom, of course!
Size: child and woman, EU 30(38)
Knit bunny socks: supplies
- 100(150) g of pink (522) Novita 7 Brothers yarn (75% wool, 25% polyamide)
- a small amount of white (011) Novita Nalle yarn (75% wool, 25% polyamide) for the tail and ears
- double-pointed needles size 3.5 mm (US 4) or as needed for gauge
- white sequins and sewing thread.
Stitch patterns:
- Rib stitch in the round: *k2, p2*, repeat from * to *.
- Stockinette stitch in the round: knit all sts on each round.
- Stockinette stitch flat: knit on the right side, purl on the wrong side.
Gauge: 21 sts in stockinette = 10 cm.
How to knit the Bunny socks:
- Cast on 40(48) sts with pink and divide them evenly onto four needles, 10(12) sts each. The start of the round is between needles I and IV. Work rib stitch in the round for 5(6) cm, then continue in stockinette stitch.
- After 8(10) cm of stockinette, begin the heel flap by knitting the sts on needle I onto needle IV (= 20–24 sts). Leave the remaining sts on hold. Turn, slip 1 purlwise, and purl the rest. Turn, *slip 1, k1*, repeat from * to * another 9(11) times. Repeat these two rows until the heel flap measures 22(24) rows.
- Work the heel turn: continue the same slip-stitch pattern as before. Knit across the heel flap until 7(9) sts remain on the other side. Work an skp decrease (= slip 1 knitwise, k1 and pass slipped st over knit st) and turn the work. Slip 1 purlwise, purl 6(6) sts, then purl the next 2 sts together, turn the work. Slip 1 st, knit until 6(8) sts remain, work an skp decrease. Continue in this manner so that the side sts decrease each time, while the center 8(8) sts remain. When there are no side sts left, divide the heel flap sts across two needles: 4,4(4,4) sts.
- With a spare needle, pick up 11(12) sts along the left edge of the heel flap plus 1 st between the flap and needle II. Knit them through the back loop with the same needle holding the 4(4) sts. Knit across needles II and III. Then pick up 11(12) sts along the right edge plus 1 st between needle III and the flap with the needle holding 4(4) sts, and knit through the back loop.
- Continue in stockinette on all 52(58) sts. Begin the gusset decreases: at the end of needle I, knit the last 2 sts together, and at the start of needle IV, work an skp decrease. Knit 1 plain round, repeat the decreases, knit 2 plain rounds, work a decrease round, knit 3 plain rounds, and so on. Continue until there are 10(12) sts on each needle, then stop decreasing.
- Work in stockinette until the foot measures 13(19) cm or until your little toe is covered. Then begin the toe decreases: at the end of needles I and III, knit the last 2 sts together, and at the start of needles II and IV, work an skp decrease. Repeat these decreases every other round until each needle has 5(6) sts left. Then decrease on every round. When 8 sts remain total, cut the yarn, pull it through the remaining sts, and secure. Knit the second sock the same way.
Ears
- Cast on 13 sts with pink and begin the work on the wrong side. Row 1 (WS): k1, p1, k1, p7, k1, p1, k1. Turn. Row 2 (RS): p1, k1, p1, k7, p1, k1, p1. Repeat rows 1–2 until the piece is 6 cm tall. Begin decreasing on the next RS row: p1, k1, p1, k2tog, k5, p1, k1, p1. Turn. On the WS, k1, p1, k1, p2tog, p4, k1, p1, k1. Turn. On the next RS, p1, k1, p1, k2tog, k3, p1, k1, p1. Turn. On the WS, k1, p1, k1, p2tog, p2, k1, p1, k1. Turn. On the next RS, p1, k1, p1, k2tog, k1, p1, k1, p1. Turn. On the WS, k1, p1, k1, p2tog, k1, p1, k1. Turn. On the next RS, p1, k1, k2tog, p1, k1, p1. Turn. On the WS, k1, p1, p2tog through the back loop, p1, k1. Turn. On the next RS, p1, k2tog, k1, p1. Turn again and purl 4 sts together. Cut the yarn and pull it through the last st. Make another piece the same way.
- For the inner part of the ears, cast on 7 sts with white and work in stockinette for 5 cm. Then decrease 1 st at the start of each row by k2tog until 3 sts remain. Knit those sts together, cut the yarn, and make another piece the same way.
- Sew the white pieces to the pink ears on the wrong side. Attach white sequins to the white section of the ears with sewing thread, securing each sequin with three stitches.
- At the lower edge of the ear, fold the sides in and sew the ears onto the sock about 10(12) cm from the toe and 4(6) sts apart. Make a few stitches higher up on the ear so it stays properly in place.
Tail
Make small pom poms with white yarn and attach them to the back of each sock where the ribbing meets the stockinette.
