Hydrangea arrangement—materials

  • a container for the arrangement

  • chicken wire

  • hydrangea stems

  • other flowers or branches

  • side cutters to cut the chicken wire

  • floral or pruning shears

Hydrangea arrangement—instructions

1. Cut a piece of chicken wire and shape it into a ball.

Keep the ball airy, rather than too tightly packed, so it’s easy to insert the flower stems upright.

2. Place the chicken wire ball into the container. If needed, secure it with floral tape so it doesn’t shift.

Make sure it fits your container so the wire ball stays firmly in place.

3. Push the flower stems into the chicken wire to form the arrangement.

Add stems until you’re happy with the way it looks.
Hydrangea blooms will dry upright in the arrangement. If you like, you can replace other fresh materials and add water, or use flower stems and dried florals that complement hydrangeas as they dry.

Tip!

Panicle hydrangeas especially turn pinkish as the weather cools. You can also cut hydrangeas grown in your garden for bouquets and arrangements.
