How to knit the House lantern socks:
- Cast on 64 sts with white yarn. Divide them onto four needles (16/16/16/16) and join to work in the round.
- *K1 through the back loop, p1*. Repeat *–* to end of rnd. Work this rib for 10 rnds.
- Work Chart 1.
- After completing Chart 1, break the contrast yarns and continue the heel with the white yarn.
- Work the heel: Move the sts on needle 1 onto needle 4. Turn the work and p32. Turn the work. The heel flap is worked with 32 sts in a reinforced stitch pattern.
- Rnd 1 (RS): k3, *slip 1 st, k1*. Repeat *–* until 1 st remains. Knit it. Turn the work.
- Rnd 2 (WS): k2, p28, k2. Turn the work.
- Repeat Rnds 1–2 until the heel flap measures 32 rnds, ending with a WS row.
- Begin the heel turn: k13, continue in the reinforced stitch pattern for 7 sts, then SSK. Turn the work.
- Slip 1 st purlwise and p8. Purl the next two sts together and turn the work. Continue the reinforced stitch pattern for 9 sts, then SSK. Turn the work.
- Slip 1 st purlwise and p8. Purl 2 sts together and turn the work.
- Continue the heel gusset decreases in this manner until you have decreased all sts on both sides, leaving 10 sts in the middle.
- Pick up 17 sts along each side. K5 onto needle 4 to shift the back seam to the center of the sock's sole.
- You now have 76 sts. Distribute them as 23/16/15/22.
- Work Chart 2.
- After completing the chart, you have 64 sts. Adjust the st distribution to 16/16/16/16 as needed. Continue with white. Knit 1 rnd. On the next rnd, decrease four sts total, leaving 60 sts, distributed as 15/15/15/15.
- Shape the toe: When your little toe is covered, decrease as follows on every other rnd: At the end of needles 1 and 3: Knit the third-to-last and second-to-last sts together. Knit the last st. At the beginning of needles 2 and 4: K1, SSK.
- When there are 9 sts left on each needle (9/9/9/9), continue decreasing on every rnd. When there are 3 sts left on each needle (3/3/3/3), break the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts. Weave in ends.
