Heart socks—instructions:
Leg
Begin by casting on 80 sts with MC and join to work in the round. Distribute them 20/20/20/20. Work *k3 tbl, p2* around for 15 rnds of rib. Then knit one more rnd of all knit stitches and inc 10 sts = 90 sts total. Distribute them 22/23/22/23 sts.

Work chart 1. It repeats 15 times in the round.
From now on, on the first rnd of the heart chart, work the leg decreases. The chart remains the same, but dec 6 sts each first rnd. In chart 2, a cross marks a good spot for these decs so they stay discreet.
Work chart 2 and dec 6 sts on the chart’s first rnd = 84 sts. Repeat the chart 14 times.
Work chart 2 and dec 6 sts on the chart’s first rnd = 78 sts. Repeat the chart 13 times.
Work chart 2 and dec 6 sts on the chart’s first rnd = 72 sts. Repeat the chart 12 times.
Work chart 2 and dec 6 sts on the chart’s first rnd = 66 sts. Repeat the chart 11 times.
Work chart 2 and dec 6 sts on the chart’s first rnd = 60 sts. Repeat the chart 10 times.
After finishing, break CC. Distribute the sts 15/15/15/15. Work another 10–15 rnds of ribbing as before.
The heel is worked with MC over 30 sts. Knit the sts from needle 1 onto needle 4. Turn. Purl 30. Needles 2 and 3 will rest.

Heel
The heel flap is at the center back. Work back and forth.
Work the 30-st heel flap in MC with slip-stitch reinforcement.
- Row 1 (RS): K 2, *sl 1 purlwise, k 1*, repeat *–* until 2 sts remain, k 2. Turn.
- Row 2 (WS): K 2, p 26, k 2. Turn.
Repeat rows 1–2 until the flap is 30 rows tall and you have just finished a WS row.
Begin the heel turn by k 10. Continue the slip-st pattern for 9 sts, then SSK. Turn. Sl 1 purlwise, p 8, p2tog, turn.
*Work 9 sts in the reinforced pattern, then SSK. Turn. Sl 1 purlwise, p 8, p2tog, turn.*
Keep going as above until you have decreased all side sts, leaving only 10 in the middle.
Knit 5 more sts so the seam is centered under the foot. Pick up 16 sts along each side. You now have 72 sts total.
Foot
Divide the sts 21/15/15/21. Continue with MC in the round. Knit all sts, decreasing as follows every other rnd:
- Needle 1: Knit until 2 sts remain, then k2tog.
- Needle 4: SSK, then knit the remaining sts.
Carry on until you have 60 sts total (15/15/15/15).
You can also add the heart motif from chart 1 on the foot, or knit the toe in MC.
When your little toe is covered, dec every other rnd as follows:
- Needles 1 and 3: Knit until 3 sts remain, k2tog, k1.
- Needles 2 and 4: k1, SSK, then knit the remaining sts.
When you have 11 sts left on each needle, dec on every rnd. When 3 sts remain, break the yarn and pull it through. Tighten and fasten off.
