A hammock invites you to relax—create your favorite summer spot and hang it anywhere you like
A lightweight hammock is built from wooden rods, fabric, and rope. The ropes support you, and the rods keep the hammock in shape. By protecting the wooden frame and using water- and dirt-repellent fabric, you’ll have a worry-free summer swing.
Hammock—supplies:
- Pine dowel rods (35 mm × 2.4 m and 15 mm × 2.4 m)
- Polyester rope (8 mm x 15 m)
- Four stainless steel screws (30 mm)
- Drill bits (3 mm, 10 mm, 15 mm)
- Saw, drill, and screwdriver
- Sandpaper
- Fabric, preferably weatherproof (137 cm wide, 155 cm long)
- Water-resistant varnish or clear wood oil
- Sewing machine, thread, scissors, and pins
Hammock—instructions:

1. Sew the edges of the fabric with a tight zigzag stitch. Fold the fabric in half, turn the edges inward, and sew two parallel seams on both sides about one centimeter apart. The double seam reinforces the seat edges.

2. Fold about 11 centimeters of the top edge in half. Sew one seam close to the zigzag edge and another a couple of centimeters away. This creates a channel for the wooden rod. Repeat the same steps for the bottom edge.

3. Saw two thick wooden rods, each 95 centimeters long. Mark lines at 5.5 centimeters from the ends. Set up a sturdy drilling base using a wooden board and battens. Drill 15-millimeter holes through at the markings.

4. Drill 10-millimeter holes for the rope at 10.5 centimeters from the rod's ends. Align the top rod’s holes with the larger holes, and position the bottom rod’s holes slightly off that alignment. Sand the edges of the holes.

5. Assemble the frame. If the holes are too tight, sand the rod ends slightly. Remove the rods and treat them with waterproof varnish or clear wood oil. Then thread the fabric and the thin rods, and secure the rope.

6. Lock the frame in place with 30-millimeter stainless steel screws. Drill a hole where the back piece attaches, then fasten. The screws make it easy to take everything apart for tasks like washing the fabric.
Tip!
Choose the thickness of the wooden rods based on how much weight the hammock needs to support.
