Giant eggs have arrived! Make these playful Easter eggs from paper—you’ll only need three supplies for the shortcut version
These giant eggs will bring Easter cheer to your home. Fill them with chocolate eggs, Easter candies, or flowers. You can craft these giant eggs in two ways: by using newspaper, a water-and-glue mix, and paint, or more simply with toilet paper and water. See instructions for the shortcut version in the video at the end of the article!
Giant eggs—supplies:
- Toilet paper, paper towels, or newspaper
- Water
- General-purpose glue
- Balloons
- Craft paint.
Giant eggs—instructions:
- Blow up a few balloons. The balloon’s size will be the size of your egg.
- In a shallow container, mix warm water with general-purpose glue.
- One at a time, dip a piece of paper into the mixture and place it on the balloon. Repeat until you can’t see the balloon’s color anymore. Let dry for 1–2 days.
- When the paper is dry, pop the balloon by pushing a pin through the egg.
- Eggs made from newspaper will turn out slightly gray, so paint the outside and, if you like, the inside as well. Let it dry.
- If you like, trim the edges with scissors or tear them by hand.
Tip!
Check for premade papier-mâché and craft paint at your local craft supply stores.
Want a shortcut? The giant eggs can also be made without glue or craft paint
- Place the inflated balloon in a pot or another sturdy container.
- Cover the balloon with overlapping strips of toilet paper (3–4 pieces at a time). Spray them wet with a spray bottle and pat them smooth. Cover about half of the balloon.
- Repeat until the balloon is covered with several layers of paper. Finally, make sure the layers are fairly even on all sides.
- If you like, decorate your giant egg with a pretty napkin. Separate the top layer of the napkin and gently press it onto the damp egg. You can cut a large napkin into four pieces to make pattern alignment easier.
- Let it dry. Eggs made without glue will dry in a day.
Tip!
Glue-free giant eggs can be recycled with organic waste.
