Gardener’s apron × 4—sew your own from old jeans or scrap fabrics
The flowerbed is calling, but you’re missing a handy garden apron. Which of these easy and delightful aprons best suits your style?
1. Seat portion in front

Cut the seat portion from the jeans along the side seams on the front side of the jeans. Keep the waistband fully attached to the cut-out back portion. Next, cut one of the legs open next to the double seam. Use that leg as a hem extension by pinning it horizontally along the bottom edge. The double seam serves as the lower edge of the hem. Join the pieces with a pretty ribbon. Finally, trim away any excess from the wrong side of the apron and from the side seams.
2. A pocket for your phone

Cut a piece of linen for the apron and a piece of patterned cotton for the pocket. Hem the top edge of the pocket, and finish the sides and bottom edge. Fold 2 cm of the apron’s sides to the right side at the bottom edge and at the pocket’s height. Make a cut in the seam allowance where the pocket ends. Stitch the pocket in place and divide it into three small compartments with vertical seams. Cut a waistband piece and sew it on. Attach small pieces of hook-and-loop fastener to keep the pocket closed. Use your own phone to measure the removable pocket. Finally, secure the pocket to the apron with a key clip.
3. Attitude apron

A simple half apron gets a dash of attitude from an iron-on patch on the pocket. The durable, solid-colored cotton pairs nicely with a colorful scrap piece, but you can also reverse the combination. Check out our half apron instructions here. You’ll also see instructions for a wall organizer and zigzag napkins.
4. The garden is calling

This handy, oh-so-cute apron is sewn from two pairs of old jeans. You’ll also need a sewing machine or a needle and thread, plus scissors. Check out the denim apron instructions! [in Finnish]
