Flea market fan Anna rescues run-down furniture: “You simply can’t resist them when you can get them cheap or even for free”
Anna Viitasaari, 34, from Urjala, collects old educational posters and apothecary bottles from flea markets. She also currently has five pieces of furniture waiting to be restored. You can admire Anna’s finds on Instagram at @ihanhunningolla.
At flea markets, I look for... mostly children’s clothing these days. For myself, I look for beautiful, old, decorative mirrors and frames. I also look for additional pieces for my tableware collections.
Sometimes I also pick up... educational posters. I’m especially drawn to ones featuring nature themes. I also can’t resist colorful retro curtains or apothecary bottles, particularly when they’re priced affordably.
I have a knack for... vintage furniture. I’ve found many items that are slightly worn and bought them inexpensively, then restored them. I already have too many, because there are five pieces downstairs waiting for a makeover. It’s impossible to resist them when you can get them cheap or even free!
I never buy... broken clothes or dishes. Even a tiny hole in a garment is enough for me to leave it behind.
I always rummage through flea markets... with my partner. They are also enthusiastic about visiting secondhand shops.
I often manage to score great finds... because I have set up a search alert on the Tori marketplace, so I get a notification right away when the item I’m looking for is listed.
Maybe someday I’ll find... some bedside tables at a flea market. I’ve been searching for a long time but I’m quite picky, which makes it tricky sometimes. Right now, I’m also looking for a bigger bed for my son, who is still sleeping in a crib.
