Defeat drafts with a fun draft stopper—easy to knit from scrap yarn
The draft stopper is a fun and colorful tube that blocks drafts from doors or windows. Knitting one allows you to use up plenty of scrap yarn. Knit as many rows in one color as you like, or until the yarn runs out.
Draft stopper—supplies:
- Scrap yarns in colors of your choice
- 4 mm / US 6 (40 cm) circular knitting needles, or size needed to match your yarn or gauge
- Filling material, such as old textiles
- Darning needle
Draft stopper—instructions:
- Cast on 90 stitches onto circular needles. Join to work in the round.
- Knit every stitch on every round.
- Continue knitting with one yarn until it runs out or until you want to switch to the next color.
- Bind off when the draft stopper reaches the desired length.
- Stuff the draft stopper with old textiles (towels, sheets, clothes, etc.). You can also use heavier fillings like rice or cat litter, which will definitely keep the drafts out. In that case, it's best to first pack the filling into a bag before placing it inside the draft stopper.
- Sew the ends closed. If you’d like to be able to change the filling in the future, close one or both ends of the draft stopper with a drawstring, like a gym bag. Weave a doubled yarn around the end with a needle, pull the threads tight, and tie into a firm bow.
