Double crochet is one of the simplest stitches and a great one for beginners to learn. It creates taller rows than single crochet, helping you finish projects more quickly.
Double crochet instructions:
1. First, work a starting chain using chain stitches (ch). Then start making double crochet (dc) stitches in the third chain from the hook.

2. Yarn over by wrapping the yarn around the hook.

3. Insert the hook into the stitch of the previous row.

4. Yarn over and pull the yarn through the stitch. You now have three loops on the hook.

5. Yarn over and pull the yarn through the first two loops.

6. Yarn over again and pull it through the remaining two loops. You now have one loop left on the hook.
7. Make another double crochet by repeating steps 2–6. If you’re working in rows, start a new row by chaining three stitches, unless your pattern says otherwise. These extra chains serve as turning chains, letting your next row of double crochets be at the right height.
