You can complete a small lampshade in one evening. Once you get comfortable with winding the yarn, you can watch TV or listen to an audiobook at the same time.

Lampshade from leftover yarn: instructions

  1. Tie one end of the yarn to the top of the frame. Hold the knot in place with one hand, then begin winding the yarn around the frame from top to bottom. Keep the yarn taut, and push the wrapped yarns together with your finger so you get a fully covered surface.
  2. When you’re happy with the thickness of a stripe or your ball of yarn runs out, tie off the end just as you did when you started.
  3. Switch to a new yarn and repeat until you’ve covered the entire frame. If you’re using multiple colors, arrange them in a regular pattern or simply follow your intuition. When the shade is finished, make sure the knots sit neatly at the back of the frame.

Tip!

Combine wide and narrow stripes in your shade. They look fun together.
