
Woof woof! These cheerful Dalmatian wool socks will keep little feet warm
Ears, eyes, and most importantly... spots! Knit these adorable children’s wool socks to delight any little dog-lover.
Size: approx. EU 22(26)30(35)38.
Dalmatian wool socks: supplies
- Novita Nalle yarn in color natural white (010), 50(50)100(100)100 g
- Novita Nalle yarn in color graphite (044), 50 g
- Double-pointed needles size 3 mm (US 2.5), or as needed for gauge.
Stitch patterns
- Ribbing in the round: *k1, p1*, repeat *–*.
- Stockinette stitch in the round: knit all rounds.
Gauge: 24 sts in stockinette stitch = 10 cm.

How to knit the Dalmatian wool socks:
1. Cast on 40(44)48(52)56 sts with graphite, distributing 10(11)12(13)14 sts on four double-pointed needles. The start of the round is always between needles I and IV. Work 2 cm of ribbing in the round. Then switch to the white yarn and continue working ribbing on the first 6 sts of needle I and the last 6 sts of needle IV, while working stockinette on the other sts. After 2.5 cm in white, purl 2 sts at the end of needle I, the start of needle II, the end of needle III, and the start of needle IV. You’ll pick up sts for the ears in these spots later.
2. Once you have worked 7 cm in white, begin the nose. The nose is worked on the last st of needle II and the first st of needle III. Knit these nose sts in gray; the white yarn runs behind the nose the entire time. Every time you reach the nose, move the gray yarn from left to right on the wrong side of the work. On the following round, knit the 2 nose sts in gray, increasing 2 sts at the same time by knitting both sts twice (first through the front loop and then through the back loop). The nose now has 4 sts. On the next round, increase 2 more sts in the same way at the edges of the nose, bringing the total to 6 sts. Knit 2 rounds. On the next round, knit the nose sts together in two groups of 3 sts each (= k3tog, k3tog again). On the following round, knit all sts in white.
3. When the leg measures 16 cm, start the heel flap by knitting the sts on needle I onto needle IV so you have 20(22)24(26)28 sts on one needle. Leave the remaining sts on hold. Turn the work, slip the first st, and purl the rest of the sts. Turn the work again, then *slip 1, k1*, repeat *–* 9(10)11(12)13 more times. Repeat these two rows a total of 10(11)12(13)14 times = 20(22)24(26)28 rows. End with a wrong-side row and begin the heel turn. Continue the same slip-stitch pattern as before. On the right side, work until 7(8)9(10)11 sts remain at the other end. Make an skp decrease (= slip 1 knitwise, k1 and pass slipped st over knit st) and turn the work. Slip the first st, p6(6)6(6)8, then p2tog and turn. Slip the first st, work until 6(7)8(9)10 sts remain, then skp. Continue in this manner, decreasing the side sts until only the center 8(8)8(8)10 sts remain.
4. When the side sts are used up, divide the heel flap sts onto 2 needles (4,4–4,4–4,4–4,4–5,5). Pick up 10(11)12(13)14 sts along the left edge of the heel flap with a free needle + 1 st from between needles. Knit these picked-up sts through the back loop onto needle I. Knit the sts on needles II and III. Then pick up 10(11)12(13)14 sts along the right edge of the heel flap + 1 st from between needles and knit these sts through the back loop onto needle IV.
5. Continue with all 50(54)58(62)68 sts in stockinette and begin the gusset decreases: on needle I, knit the last 2 sts together; at the beginning of needle IV, skp. Knit 1 round without decreasing, then decrease again, knit 2 rounds without decreasing, decrease, knit 3 rounds without decreasing, etc. Once there are 10(11)12(13)14 sts left on each needle, stop decreasing.
6. Continue in stockinette until the sole is about 12(13)15(17)20 cm long or until the little toe is covered. Begin the toe decreases: at the end of needles I and III, k2tog, then k1; at the beginning of needles II and IV, k1, then skp. Make these decreases every other round until there are 5(7)8(9)10 sts on each needle. Then work the decreases on every round. When only 8 sts remain, cut the yarn, pull it through the remaining sts, and fasten off.

Finishing
Ears: pick up 4 sts with the gray yarn from the purl sts on the leg and wotk 4 rows in garter stitch. On the next row, increase 2 sts as follows: k1, knit the strand between sts through the back loop, k2, increase again in the same way, k1 = 6 sts. Knit 1 row. On the next row, increase 2 sts as before = 8 sts. Knit 4 rows. On the next row, decrease 1 st at each edge by knitting 2 sts together = 6 sts. Knit 1 row, repeat the edge decreases = 4 sts. Bind off the remaining sts.
Eyes: use a couple of horizontal satin stitches for the pupil, then outline it with backstitch. Add arcs around the pupil in backstitch as well.
Spots: embroider small spots wherever you like using duplicate stitch.
These children’s wool socks are now finished!
