
Crochet a headband with playful popcorn stitches—a quick, eye-catching way to use up yarn scraps
Popcorn stitches give this headband a beautiful, raised texture. Quick to make, it’s the perfect project to use up those little leftover bits—crochet yours in a single evening!
Size: Finished size approx. 52 × 11 cm (20½" × 4¼"); fits a head circumference of 55–58 cm (21½–23").
Popcorn headband—supplies:
Novita Nalle yarn, total 50 g (50 g = 130 m) in the colors of your choice
6 mm crochet hook
scissors
blunt tapestry needle
Gauge: 10 × 10 cm (4" × 4") = 12 sts and 8 rows (2 of them popcorn rows). Work with yarn held double.


Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- yo sl st: Yarn over, then work a slip stitch, pulling through the two loops on hook.
- popcorn: *yo, insert hook into st and pull up a loop* 4 times, yo and pull through all loops on hook.
- hdc: half double crochet
Popcorn headband—pattern:
Row 1: With yarn held double, ch 66. Starting in the second ch from hook, work 65 yo sl st along the bottom of the foundation chain, turn.


Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout), 1 sc, *popcorn, ch 1, skip next st*; repeat from * to * 31 more times, 1 sc, turn.


Rows 3–7: 65 hdc in back loops only.




Row 8: Repeat Row 2.
Row 9: Repeat Row 3. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for seaming.
Weave in all ends except the long tail. Wash and block to measurements if desired.
Sewing the headband together
1. With the right side facing up, fold the band into a “U” shape.


2. Place the right end over the left so that the left end is half-covered by the right.


3. Now fold half of the left end over the right so that the edges of the left end line up with the middle of the right end on both sides, then fold the right end over the left.






4. Sew along the edge using whip stitch, making sure you attach all layers together. Finally, turn the headband so the seam is on the inside.
