Crocheted birch leaf

The trick to the birch leaves is the stalk, worked in a contrasting color.

Stalk: Chain (ch) 10. Work 1 slip stitch (sl st) in the 2nd ch from hook and 1 sl st in each remaining ch = 9 sl st in total. Fasten off.

Leaf: Join a new yarn with 1 single crochet (sc) to the stitch at the beginning of the stalk. Along one side of the stalk, work 1 double crochet (dc), 4 treble crochets (tr), 1 dc, 1 half double crochet (hdc), 1 sc. In the stitch at the tip of the stem, work (2 hdc, ch 2, sl st in the 1st ch, 2 hdc). Down the other side of the stem, work 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 4 tr, 1 dc, 1 sc. Fasten off.

Crocheted oak leaf

Oak leaves come together in no time—all you have to do is crochet a rippling edge to both sides of a foundation chain.

Ch 13 for the foundation chain. Work 1 sc into the 2nd ch from hook. Along the chain, work 4 sl st, 1 sc; in the next ch work (1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc); then 1 sc, 1 dc; in the next ch work (1 tr, 1 double treble crochet (dtr), 1 tr); then 1 dc, and in the last ch work (1 sc, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc, 1 sc). Continue along the opposite side of the foundation chain: 1 dc; in the next ch work (1 tr, 1 dtr, 1 tr); then 1 dc, 1 sc; in the next ch work (1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc); then 1 sc and 1 sl st. Fasten off.

Crocheted maple leaf

The maple leaf has a striking shape—hard to believe you can crochet it in just four rounds of basic stitches.

Wrap the yarn around your finger and work into the ring:

  • Round 1: 12 sc. Join with 1 sl st to the first sc = 12 sc.
  • Round 2: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in same st as the ch-3. Work 2 dc in each st around. Join with 1 sl st to the 3rd ch of the ch-3 at the start = 24 dc.
  • Round 3: *skip 1 st, 6 dc in next st, skip 1 st, 1 sl st in next st*, repeat from * to * four more times (5 dc shells in total). Then 1 sc, ch 6, 1 sc in the 2nd ch from hook and 4 sl st. Sc in the next st of the edge, then sl st in next 2.
  • Round 4: In each 6-dc shell, work the following: (2 sc, 2 hdc in same st, ch 2, 1 sl st in the 1st ch, 2 hdc in next st, then 2 sc); work 1 sl st between shells. Fasten off.
Autumn wreath decorated with crocheted leaves
Turn your crocheted leaves into a seasonal showstopper by attaching them to a wreath. The base of this wreath is twisted from Virginia creeper vines and embellished with raffia and dried grasses. Assemble the base of the wreath a few days before attaching the decorations, so it can dry and firm up.
