
Get hooked on crocheted fruit earrings—make a fun pair for yourself or a friend
Brighten up any outfit with crocheted fruit earrings made from cotton yarn. They’re quick to make and a delightful way to surprise a friend, too. Which ones will you make first: lemons, cherries, or pears?
Fruit earrings—supplies:
- Drops Safran yarn (100% cotton, 50 g = 160 m) as follows: for lemon earrings, use light yellow (10), dark yellow (11), and white (17); for cherry earrings, use red (20) and green (31); and for pear earrings, use green (31) and brown (68).
- a 3 mm (US D/3) crochet hook or whichever works best for your tension
- stuffing for cherry and pear earrings
- earring hooks.

Cherry earrings—instructions:
Round 1: using red yarn, make a magic ring and crochet 6 sc. = 6 sts.
Round 2: crochet 2 sc in each stitch. = 12 sts.
Round 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in the same stitch*. Repeat from * to * 6 times. = 18 sts.
Rounds 4–7: 1 sc in each stitch. = 18 sts.
Round 8: *sc 2 sts together, 1 sc*. Repeat from * to * 6 times. = 12 sts.
Round 9: *sc 2 sts together*. Repeat from * to * 6 times. = 6 sts.
Stuff the cherries. Sew the opening closed and pull the yarn through the cherry. Tighten until a small dimple forms at the end of the cherry. Weave in the ends. Crochet another cherry the same way.
Crochet 30 chain stitches with green yarn. Fold this chain approximately in half and sew it together for about 1 cm (0.4 in). Attach the ends to the cherries. Make another pair of cherries the same way. Attach the earring hooks.

Lemon earrings—instructions:
Round 1: using white yarn, make a magic ring and crochet 8 sc. = 8 sts. Close with a slip stitch in the first stitch.
Round 2: switch to light yellow yarn and crochet 2 sc in each stitch. = 16 sts.
Round 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in the same stitch*. Repeat from * to * 8 times. = 24 sts.
Round 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in the same stitch*. Repeat from * to * 8 times. = 32 sts.
Round 5: *3 sc, 2 sc in the same stitch*. Repeat from * to * 8 times. = 40 sts.
Round 6: *4 sc, 2 sc in the same stitch*. Repeat from * to * 8 times. = 48 sts. End with 1 sl st in the first stitch.
Round 7: switch to white yarn and crochet *5 sc, 2 sc in the same stitch*. Repeat from * to * 8 times. = 56 sts. End with 1 sl st in the first stitch.
Round 8: switch to dark yellow yarn and crochet 1 sc in each stitch. = 56 sts. Close with a sl st in the first stitch.
Fold the lemon in half and sew the edge closed. Thread a piece of white yarn on a needle and use long stitches to form the segment divisions. Make a second lemon the same way. Attach the earring hooks.
Pear earrings—instructions:
Round 1: using green yarn, make a magic ring and crochet 6 sc. = 6 sts.
Round 2: crochet 2 sc in each stitch. = 12 sts.
Round 3: crochet 1 sc, *2 sc in the same stitch, 3 sc*. Repeat from * to * 2 times, then 2 sc in the same stitch, 2 sc. = 15 sts.
Rounds 4–6: 1 sc in each stitch. = 15 sts.
Round 7: 2 sc, *2 sc in the same stitch, 4 sc*. Repeat from * to * 2 times, then 2 sc in the same stitch, 2 sc. = 18 sts.
Round 8: *5 sc, 2 sc in the same stitch*. Repeat from * to * 3 times. = 21 sts.
Round 9: 3 sc, *2 sc in the same stitch, 6 sc*. Repeat from * to * 2 times, then 2 sc in the same stitch, 3 sc. = 24 sts.
Rounds 10–14: 1 sc in each stitch. = 24 sts
Round 15: *sc 2 sts together, 2 sc*. Repeat from * to * 6 times. = 18 sts.
Round 16: *sc 2 sts together, 1 sc*. Repeat from * to * 6 times. = 12 sts.
Round 17: *sc 2 sts together*. Repeat from * to * 6 times. = 6 sts. Stuff the pear and sew the opening closed.
Crochet 4 chain stitches with brown yarn and attach them as the stem. With brown yarn, embroider three crisscross stitches as the pear’s eye. Make another pear the same way. Attach the earring hooks.
