Crochet a beautiful oval doormat for your entryway with jute yarn. Natural, sturdy jute is perfect for a doormat.
Size: 66 × 54 cm (26" × 21").
Oval doormat—materials:
Yarn: thick jute yarn by Lappajärven Värjäämö (100% jute, approx. 500 g = approx. 225 m), 300 g in beige (2), 200 g in dark blue (14), and 80 g in yellow (8)
Crochet hook 6 mm, or to match gauge.
Gauge: 10 sts and 6.5 rnds = 10 cm (4").


Oval doormat—pattern
Crochet the rug with half double crochets (hdc). With yellow, ch 16 for the foundation chain. Note: Increase (inc) = work 2 hdc in the same st.
Rnd 1: Crochet 2 hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook, 12 hdc, and 3 hdc in the last st. Continue along the opposite side of the foundation chain with 12 hdc, then join the round with 1 sl st in the 2nd ch. Join all rounds in this manner unless otherwise stated.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 1 hdc in the same st, inc in each of the next 3 sts, 11 hdc, inc in each of the next 4 sts, 11 hdc.
Rnd 3: Ch 2, 1 hdc in the same st, *1 hdc, inc*, repeat from * to * 2 times, 12 hdc, *inc, 1 hdc*, repeat from * to * 2 more times, inc, 11 hdc, and 1 hdc in the base of the ch2 at the start of the rnd (= 12 hdc).

Mark the 6 increases at the curved ends and work increases in the same positions on rounds 7–10.
Rnd 11: Ch 2, 1 hdc in the same st, 21 hdc, inc, 64 hdc, inc, 42 hdc. Switch to the beige yarn.
Rnd 12: Ch 2, 1 hdc in the same st, 1 hdc in each st around.
Rnd 13: Ch 2, 1 hdc in the same st, *8 hdc, inc*, repeat from * to * 4 more times, 20 hdc, *inc, 8 hdc*, repeat from * to * 4 more times, inc, 20 hdc.
Rnd 14: Ch 2, 1 hdc in the same st, 4 hdc, *inc, 9 hdc*, repeat from * to * 3 more times, 31 hdc, *inc, 9 hdc*, repeat from * to * 3 more times, inc, 25 hdc. There are 31 sts between the first and the last increase.

Rnd 17: Work 1 hdc in each st. For the edging, crochet 1 round of slip stitches loosely enough so the edge doesn’t tighten. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
