Crocheted dog basket—pattern:

Basket

First crochet the round base of the basket. Make a starting ring around your finger with the thicker yarn.

Round 1: With the larger hook, ch 1 and work 8 sc into the ring. Continue working in a spiral, i.e., without joining rounds. Mark the start of each round, and move the marker at the end of every round.

Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch = 16 sts. Close the starting ring by pulling the yarn tail, and crochet it inside the stitches on the next round.

Round 3: *sc 1, then 2 sc in the same stitch*, repeat from * to * 7 more times = 24 sts.

Round 4: *sc 2, then 2 sc in the same stitch*, repeat from * to * 7 more times = 32 sts.

Round 5: sc 1, *2 sc in the same stitch, sc 3*, repeat from * to * 6 more times, then 2 sc in the same stitch, sc 2 = 40 sts.

Round 6: *sc 4, then 2 sc in the same stitch*, repeat from * to * 7 more times = 48 sts.

Round 7: sc 48. Steam the finished base. Then begin the basket wall in knit stitches.

Rounds 8–19: sc 48 each round, inserting your hook through the center of the stitch from the previous round. Make sure the hook goes under the horizontal strand visible on the wrong side.

A nose and mouth embroidered on the dog basket
The eyes, muzzle, and nose are done in just a few rounds and stitches.

Finishing

Embroider a nose and mouth on the muzzle with black yarn. Pin and sew the muzzle and eyes in place. You can also use buttons for eyes. Sew the ears on the inside of the edge of the basket and the paws to the bottom edge. Apply a water-glue mixture to the yarn ends so they won’t unravel.
