A crocheted bookmark works up in no time—two charming patterns
A crocheted bookmark is the perfect little project for using up even the smallest yarn scraps, and the finished piece makes a delightful gift for any book lover. Will your favorite be a sweet heart or a flower in the recipient’s favorite colors?
Crocheted bookmark—supplies:
- Cotton yarn
- A crochet hook in a size that matches your yarn
Crocheted heart bookmark—pattern:

Round 1: Start the heart with a magic ring. Chain (ch) 2, work 15 double crochets (dc) into the ring; join with a slip stitch (sl st) to close the round.
Round 2: Ch 2, 1 dc in next st, 4 treble crochets (tr) in next st, 2 dc in next st, single crochet (sc) in each of next 4 sts. At the tip of the heart, work (1 dc, ch 1, 1 tr, ch 1, 1 dc) in the same st. Mirror the first side: sc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st, 4 tr in next st, 1 dc in next st, ch 2. Join with a sl st between the two top curves.

Ribbon
From the heart tip, ch 60 for the bookmark ribbon. Ch 5 more and join with a sl st to form a ring. Work 3 sl st along the ribbon. Into the ring, crochet 18 dc; join with a sl st at the beginning of the round. Slip stitch all the way back along the ribbon to the tip of the heart and fasten off. Weave in all ends.
Crocheted flower bookmark—pattern:

Round 1: Start the flower with a magic ring. Ch 2, work 18 dc into the ring; join with a sl st to close the round.
Round 2: Ch 1. In the next st work 1 dc, 1 tr, ch 1, 1 tr, 1 dc to make a petal; sc in the next st. Make a total of 8 petals in this way. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Ribbon
Join green yarn between any two petals. Start the stem by ch 10. For a picot, ch 3 and sl st into the first of those 3 ch. Continue adding a picot every 10 ch until the stem measures 60–70 ch.

At the end of the ribbon, crochet a small leaf: Ch 10. Turn, sc in the second ch from hook. *Into the next ch, work (1 hdc, 2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc)*. Turn by working a sl st into the ribbon. Work 1 sc, then crochet the other half of the leaf from * to *. Finish with a sl st at the leaf tip.
From the base of the leaf, slip stitch back toward the flower, working a sl st into each ch of the ribbon. On this pass, make 3-ch picots every 10 sts so they sit between the picots on the first side. Fasten off at the starting point of the ribbon and weave in all ends.
