Twinkle, twinkle: craft the season’s funkiest cone star from leftover gift wrap scraps
A fun cone star is easily made from leftover Christmas gift wrap scraps. You can also use any kind of recycled paper, from book pages to magazines.
Cone star—materials:
- Wrapping paper, book pages, or any flexible paper
- Pencil and ruler
- Scissors
- Double-sided tape
- A piece of cardstock or cardboard
- String
- A bow, wooden bead, or a small Christmas ornament.

Cone star—instructions:

1. Cut the paper into 30 × 30 cm (12” × 12”) squares. You’ll need six squares in total to make 12 cones.

2. Fold each piece diagonally in half and cut along the fold.

3. Flip the patterned side face down. Position the triangle so its tip points downward.

4. Put tape on the patterned side of the left corner. Fold that corner over the tip for a sharp bottom.

5. Place a piece of tape on the inside of the right corner.

6. Fold the corner to the back of the cone.

7. Make the rest of the cones the same way.

8. Use a side plate to trace and cut a round piece of cardstock or cardboard. Find the center and mark it.

9. Glue or tape the cones onto the base.

10. If you like, attach a small decoration to the center of the star, such as a bow, a wooden bead, or a small Christmas ornament.

11. Cut a piece of string and tape it to the back of the cardboard. Hang the finished star on a wall or door.
