A springtime craft idea
Coffee filter flowers: spring’s sweetest craft idea (with supplies you may already have!)
When making coffee filter flowers for spring decorations, the only limit is your imagination. These beautiful and, above all, easy-to-make DIY coffee filter flowers can be decorated, shaped, and used in countless ways!
DIY coffee filter flowers—supplies:
- coffee filters
- scissors
- thin metal wire (works even without it)
- watercolors
- craft stamens (optional). For example, many craft stores sell them.
Here’s how to make coffee filter flowers at home:
- Cut away the bottom seam and one side of the coffee filter. Then, use scissors to create a scalloped edge on the filter.
- Open the coffee filter fully, and if you like, place a bundle of stamens along the edge. Gather the filter around the stamens to form a flower, then twist the base tightly into a roll or secure it with wire.
- Dye the coffee filter flowers with watercolors. For a delicate shade, first brush each bloom with water, then add color. If you’d like speckles, try flicking color onto the flowers.
- Attach the coffee filter flowers to a willow branch with wire, for example.
Tips!
- You can also try other dyeing liquids, such as beetroot juice.
- Crafting coffee filter flowers is also possible without wire; simply crumple and twist the base of the flower into a tight bundle.
