3 × tiny cabins: a 24-square-meter impulse buy, an atmospheric salting shed, and a cabin on wheels

1. A tiny cabin on wheels!

Completed in 2022, this trailer cabin is located in a holiday village in Tammisaari.

One end of the cabin houses a kitchen and dining area, the middle has a pull-out sofa bed, and the other end is reserved for sleeping.

Childhood summers in a camper trailer inspired Petra Barck to acquire a modern trailer cabin for her family. Nature is close by in the holiday village, just a ferry ride away.

“Life at the cabin is simple,” Petra says.

2. An adorable impulse buy

Marketing specialist and blogger Netta Koskela vacations with her partner in this 24-square-meter cabin built in the 1930s in Pernaja, Loviisa.

The small, green cabin instantly charmed them with its inviting feel: “We ended up buying the first cabin we ever went to see.”

Netta Koskela started dreaming of having her own cabin in her twenties, hoping for a summer place to do things she couldn’t in her downtown Helsinki home. Bought on a whim in the heart of Pernaja’s church village, the tiny cabin offers a cozy counterbalance to city life.

3. A 200-year-old salting shed

The salting shed’s exterior walls have grown gray in seaside gusts, with salty ocean water literally soaking into them.

The kitchen has only a gas stove and fridge. There is no electricity, and water must be carried inside.

Johanna Wendelin enjoys a spartan, hermit-like life at the 200-year-old salting shed. In this gray log cabin on Åland, fish were once salted and preserved in barrels. Now Johanna relishes a peaceful spot in the ruggedly beautiful landscape by the open sea.
