Mushrooms on your wall? Craft playful chanterelle hooks for your entryway
If you can spare a moment away from the mushroom forest, craft these golden chanterelle hooks for your hallway wall.
Chanterelle hooks: materials
- plastic wall hooks with adhesive backing
- air-dry modeling clay, for example Das
- acrylic paints and brushes
- aluminum foil
- rolling pin
- clear gloss varnish for finishing, for example Fimo
Chanterelle hooks: instructions

1. Shape the chanterelle stem from foil and glue it onto the plastic wall hook.
2. Form the chanterelle cap from foil and glue it to the stem.
3. Cover the entire piece with another continuous layer of foil. Your base structure is now ready.

4. Roll out a thin layer of modeling clay.

5. Cover the foil mushroom with a thin layer of modeling clay. Make sure there are no weak spots or gaps in the surface.

6. Smooth out the clay surface with water-dampened fingers. Pay special attention to any seams.
7. Use a sculpting tool to remove any clay that extends over the edges of the adhesive hook. Once done, the base of the hook should sit flush against the wall.

8. Create the distinctive gill-like folds of a chanterelle using a toothpick, for example.
9. Let the clay dry for 24 hours before painting.

10. Paint the mushroom hooks, let them dry, and finish them with a glossy varnish if you’d like.
