Butterfly socks: supplies
- Novita Nalle yarn in White (011), Saffron (285), Glacier (324), Freesia (712), and Linen (061), one skein each.
- Needles 3 mm (US 2.5) or according to your gauge.

How to knit the Butterfly socks
Cast on 76 sts with the Glacier-colored yarn, divide onto four needles, and work knit 2, purl 2 ribbing for 4 rounds. Next, alternate knitting 3 rounds with Linen, White, and Glacier. Continue this rhythm for a total of eight stripes. Then knit 3 rounds in White.
Then follow the chart for rounds 1–81.

After finishing the chart, you will have 58 sts remaining. Switch to White and knit 1 round. At the same time, k2tog at the beginning of the first needle and end of the fourth needle. Distribute the remaining 56 sts evenly on four needles (14 on each).
Work the ankle as follows: knit 1 round in White. Then with Glacier, k1, *slip the White st from the previous round, k3 in Glacier*, repeat *–* to the end of round. Repeat for a total of 3 rounds. Knit 1 round in White. Change to Linen and repeat *–* for 3 rounds, then knit 1 more round in White.
Heel
Switch to Glacier. Work the heel on the sts on needles 1 and 4 (28 sts). Knit the sts of needle 1. Move the last st to needle 2 and make 1 new st on needle 1. (This makes the pattern line up on the top of the foot.) Turn work, slip the first st, and purl across needles 1 and 4. Turn work again and begin the reinforced heel as follows: *slip 1, k1*, repeat *–* to the end of row, then repeat the wrong side row. Continue for a total of 28 rows.
Heel turn
Continue working the reinforced stitch. Work the right side row until 10 sts remain on the needle. Work an skp decrease (= slip 1 knitwise, k1, pass slipped st over) and turn work. Slip the first st, p8, then p2tog, and turn work. Slip the first st, knit until 9 sts remain, then work an skp.
Keep going in this way so that the side sts decrease gradually and the 10 center sts remain. When the side sts are used up, divide the heel flap sts onto two needles.
Foot
Continue in White and pick up 14 sts along each edge of the heel flap + 1 between the needles. On needles 2 and 3, keep working the same pattern as in the ankle (29 sts). On needles 1 and 4, work stockinette. Decrease at the end of needle 1 by k2tog, and at the start of needle 4 by skp on every round, until you have 56 sts total. Knit 4 rounds in White, *3 rounds in Glacier, 1 round in White, 3 rounds in Linen, 5 rounds in White*. Continue working *–*.
Continue until your little toe is covered, then begin the toe decreases: At the end of needles 1 and 3, k2tog, and at the start of needles 2 and 4, skp. Decrease every other round until there are 7 sts on each needle. Then decrease every round until 8 sts remain total. Break the yarn, pull it through the remaining sts, and weave in the ends.
