Colors of autumn in warm mittens—knit the prettiest accessory of the season
The Autumn forest mittens are the perfect match for the Autumn forest socks. Designed by Finnish knitting designer Niina Laitinen, they feature eye-catching motifs on the back of the hand and simple stranded colorwork on the palm.
Size: for women.
Syysmetsä colorwork mittens: supplies

- double-pointed needles 3.5 mm (US 4).

Gauge
21 sts = 10 cm, 24 rounds = 10 cm.
How to knit the Syysmetsä colorwork mittens
Cast on 44 sts using the main color and work *k1 through back loop, p1* ribbing for 18 rounds.
Left mitten
1. Begin the colorwork on round 1 of the chart, increasing 2 sts at the same time to bring the total to 46 sts. Distribute the sts onto the needles as 12-11-12-11. On round 3, begin working the thumb gusset as indicated in the chart (at the end of needle 2, in the red section). Make the increases at the edges of the thumb gusset by picking up the strand between sts on your needle and knitting it through the back loop. The thumb gusset increases are made every 3rd round.
2. After working all 14 rounds of the thumb gusset, place the 11 gusset sts on hold using scrap yarn and cast on 1 st in their place. Continue with the colorwork according to the chart. Make the top decreases on every round, starting on round 40:
At the beginning of needle 1: k1, skp (= slip 1 knitwise, k1 and pass slipped st over knit st).
At the end of needle 2: k2tog, k1.
At the beginning of needle 3: k1, skp.
At the end of needle 4: k2tog, k1.
When 10 stitches remain in total, break the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches.
