Acorn elves: materials

  • Modeling clay
  • Rolling pin
  • A toothpick or another tool for shaping clay
  • Acrylic paint
  • A paintbrush
  • An acorn cap
  • A hot glue gun and a glue stick
  • Fabric scraps, ribbons, or other decorations
  • Jute twine or thread for hanging

Acorn elf: instructions

  1. Shape a piece of modeling clay into a log. If you want to make more than one elf, you can create them in various lengths and thicknesses. The thickness is correct when the acorn cap fits on top.
  2. Next, shape the elf's beard and face out of clay. Roll and cut a suitable piece, then use a toothpick to sculpt and attach details such as the beard, nose, and eyes. Attach them to the log.
  3. Let the elf's body dry completely, following the instructions on the modeling clay package.
  4. Paint the elf's body with acrylic paint, either white or a contrasting color.
  5. Let the paint dry.
  6. Use hot glue to attach the acorn cap to the elf's body.
  7. Decorate the elf with fabric scraps, buttons, ribbons, or other embellishments.
  8. If you want to hang your elves on the Christmas tree, attach a hanging loop to the cap with hot glue.
You can also paint the elves with festive Christmas accent colors—use your imagination when shaping their beards and faces.
You can place the elves as fun, whimsical details in your Christmas flower arrangement. Protect their surface with craft varnish if needed.
