6 fresh flower arrangements to bring the season into your home

A springtime flower arrangement can be as simple as a few stems or a luscious cascade of blooms. Which of these six arrangements makes you feel the spring in the air?

1. A few stems are all you need

Highlight individual flowers by replacing the vase with a bundle of skewers or small sticks. A delicate arrangement can be made with just a few stems. Cut the skewers to a suitable length and tie them together with rubber bands—they will stretch as you place the stems between the sticks. Make sure the stems reach the bottom so they can soak up enough water. Keep a close eye on the water level in the shallow dish. This bundle features meadow rue, lisianthus, and freesia buds. Finally, cover the rubber bands with leather strip or decorative ribbon.

2. Blooming in a bubble

In a glass globe, flowers are on display as if in a showcase. On the bottom of the globe, place a wad of chicken wire or a small flower frog. If needed, you can secure it with putty. Cover the wire or frog with a leaf or twig. The dainty mimosa and honeywort branches add fullness, letting the delicate but heavier buttercup stand out. The arrangement remains balanced if you leave enough empty space inside.

3. Effortless and sprawling

A sprawling, carefree bouquet is guaranteed to bring joy. Mix the relaxed poppy anemones and tulips with the sturdy hyacinths, the fully double germini, and lisianthus. Combining flowers with different growth habits makes it easier to shape your bouquet. Eucalyptus branches add movement.

4. Lush and airy

Just a few harmonious stems make a beautiful arrangement. Choose a shallow container and secure a flower frog to the bottom with putty. Arrange the lush double germinis in place first, then add the lighter golden-glows. Tuck in some lively corkscrew hazel branches and finish with the delicate asparagus fern. If the arrangement is meant to be viewed from all sides, remember to rotate it as you work.

5. A colorful spring medley

Create a fresh spring medley by mixing flowers of different sizes and colors in a vase with a perforated lid (a built-in grid). A few impressive tulips, freesias, and Jerusalem cherry add richness, complemented by grape hyacinths and blueberry twigs. Trim the flowers to the right length with a sharp knife and arrange them in the vase. If the stems are thin, group several flowers in the same opening. Replace any wilted blooms with fresh ones, as twigs last a long time and might even bloom. Set the vase in a cool spot overnight.

6. Less but more impressive

You don’t need a huge cluster of flowers if you arrange bright tulips and poppies airily in a vase. Add viburnum and forced cherry or other flowering branches. Let spring arrive!
